Capt'n’s Log: MAY - Runoff Wrap-Up, Road Trips & BALI

Well… May really said “let’s do everything at once,” didn’t it?

🎣 Runoff Finale

We officially wrapped up runoff for the season and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better finish.Jays’ last trip on the calendar was with Sally, Tristan, Sandy and Greg, and they absolutely slayed it. The kind of trip where everything just clicks! Good crew, good laughs, and even better fishing.

You know it’s a solid one when everyone steps off the boat already talking about coming back.

There’s always something a bit bittersweet about that final trip. Runoff brings a certain kind of energy. The early mornings, big hits, and that constant “this could be the one” feeling. And then suddenly… it’s done. Just like that.

🚗 Back Up North

While all that was wrapping up, Kate made the journey back up north—three days on the road with the dogs.It’s not exactly a quick drive, but there’s something about it that she's come to love.

Long stretches of nothing, a bit of chaos here and there, and plenty of time to think (or just sing badly with the windows down). By the time you arrive, you feel like you’ve properly arrived, if that makes sense.

The north just has a way of pulling you back in.

🌴 Bali… Gone Slightly Sideways

Kate did sneaky trip to Bali for a bit of a reset—which started off exactly how you’d want it to. Good food, warm weather, amazing company with her bestie Fiona, a bit of downtime… all the things.

And then… the last two days hit.Properly knocked her around. A severe infection that landed her in bed in the hotel for 2 full days with a drip in her arm.

Not quite the relaxing ending she had planned, but I guess that’s life keeping things interesting.

You take the wins where you can get them and roll with the rest. Safe to say Kate was very ready to get back home after that little plot twist.

💻 Behind the Scenes Wins

On a completely different note, massive shoutout to Gwyn (Jays’ VA), who has JUST DOON IT. running so smoothly behind the scenes that it honestly makes our lives a whole lot easier.

Because of that, she’s now been able to step into Kate’s business, Ladies with Tradies, and wow, she hasn’t missed a beat.

She’s slotted into the team so naturally and has already lifted things in more ways than one. It’s one of those rare moments where you just know you’ve got the right person in your corner.

Couldn’t be more grateful!

❤️ Back Together Again

And finally… the big one! After 2.5 months apart, Jays and Kate are back in the same place again.

Runoff season always tests them a bit. It’s long days, big weeks, and a whole lot of distance in between.

But it’s also what they love. The fishing, the people, the lifestyle—it’s hard to beat.

So when they do finally get back together, it makes it all the more worth it.

The warmth, the chaos, the good times up north… It's why they do it.

And just like that, the season winds down.

It’s funny how quickly it all goes. One minute you’re in the thick of it, the next you’re looking back at everything it was.

The long days, the laughs, the quiet moments in between… it all adds up to something pretty special.

We don’t take any of it for granted.
