Capt'n’s Log: APRIL - Between Trips and Time Off

April didn’t muck around! Straight into it from day one.

🏕️ Kate’s Month

Kate managed to sneak in a quick camping and fishing trip with friends and the godkids, just a one-nighter, a small escape out on the water before the month shifted gears.

Not long after, she was hit with a full-on viral body rash that really knocked her around. What was meant to be family time out at Kyalite, along with Jays & Kate’s niece Poppy’s 1st birthday, had to be cancelled. It wasn’t an easy stretch, and she was pretty devo about missing those moments.

On top of that, April 18 quietly marked the anniversary of her brother Gareth’s passing. It's also her dad’s birthday, a day that naturally holds a mix of love, memory, and reflection for the family. A gentle reminder of the people who are missed, and the moments that stay with you.

Through it all, she’s now gearing up for the long 3.5-day drive back to the NT with the three dogs—equal parts road trip and endurance test, as always. One of those journeys that clears the head, even if it takes a bit out of you.

🎣 On the Water: Big Energy & Even Bigger Fish

While Kate was dealing with curveballs, Jays has been flat out on the water and April delivered.

He kicked things off at Dundee with a crew who came in hot and didn’t slow down. Crocodile G-strings on show, top-shelf spirits getting cracked at 7am… you can imagine the kind of trip it turned into. Loose, loud, and a whole lot of fun.

Then came Banjo and his crew—proper cod fishermen with solid banter to match. The kind of group that just gets it. Good vibes all round, and even better fishing. Jays had a ripper time getting them onto some cracking fish.

🚤 Mothership Mayhem: Barra Everywhere

To wrap up the month, things stepped up another level.

Chizy’s mob jumped aboard for a 5-day mothership trip, and it turned into absolute madness. We’re talking non-stop barra in the 90s getting pulled straight off the side of the boat—one after the other.

Add to that bagging out on threadies at the mouth, and you’ve got yourself a trip that’ll be talked about for a long time.

It wasn’t just good fishing, it was one of those “you had to be there” kind of weeks.

🔥 What’s Happening Now: No Slowing Down

And there’s been no pause button.

As we write this, Jays has just picked up the boys from Mildura for another mothership run. Cory and his crew are back after fishing the Dry with us, so expectations are high and if April’s anything to go by, they’re in for a big few days.

🌊 Looking Ahead:
