What Makes a Great Fishing Trip? Our Guests Share Their Experience

Let me tell you something I’ve learned after doing this for a while.

A “great fishing trip” isn’t just about how many fish you catch.

It’s about the whole day.

The laughs, the moments, the people you’re with, and that feeling when everything just clicks out on the water.

And honestly, I don't need to explain it too much, our guests usually say it better than I ever could.

So I’ll just share a few things I’ve heard from people who’ve been out with us at JUST DOON IT., and a bit of what I see from the deck.

“Plenty of laughs, good vibes, and we were onto fish straight away”

This is something I hear a lot.

People step on the boat not knowing what to expect, and pretty quickly it just turns into a relaxed day.

One of our guests put it pretty simply. They had a few days out, plenty of laughs, and we made sure everyone got a real crack at landing fish.

That’s the goal out there.

Not rushing people.

Just getting everyone involved and onto fish when the bite is on.

“We came all the way from Amsterdam for this”

This one stuck with us.

Travelling that far just to go fishing in the NT… that’s pretty special.

They talked about the scenery, the wildlife, and just how smooth the whole experience was.

And from my side, that’s what we try to do, keep everything easy.

You show up, we take care of the rest, and you just enjoy where you are.

“Best captain, so much knowledge, and we actually learned a lot”

This is something I take pride in.

It’s not just about putting people on fish.

It’s about showing you how things work out there. Why fish are holding in certain spots, how to work your lure properly, little things like that.

We’ve had guests land barra and also leave saying they feel way more confident fishing than when they started.

That’s a win in my book.

“It felt like a fishing trip and wildlife cruise in one”

This is probably one of my favourites.

Because it’s true.

Out here with JUST DOON IT., you’re not just fishing.

You’re seeing:

  • crocodiles sliding off banks

  • buffalo in the distance

  • wild pigs moving through the scrub

  • birds you don’t usually see anywhere else

And then on top of that, you’ve got barra smashing lures like they’ve got something to prove.

It’s never just one thing out here. It’s everything at once.

“The fish were hitting like they owed us money”

Yeah… that’s a good way to describe it actually.

When the conditions line up, it can get pretty wild.

We’ve had days where it just turns on and you can’t keep up.

And those are the days people remember most.

Not just because of the fish, but because of how it felt when everything was firing.

“We were looked after the whole day”

This part matters more than people think.

Good fishing is one thing, but being looked after on the boat makes the whole experience better.

We’ve had guests mention everything from snacks to lunch to drinks being sorted and that’s intentional.

Because when you’re out for the day, you shouldn’t be worrying about anything except the next cast.

SO WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES A GREAT TRIP?

From my side, it’s pretty simple.

A great fishing trip with JUST DOON IT. is when:

  • people relax into the day

  • everyone gets involved

  • we share a few laughs

  • and the fish decide to show up

Everything else just supports that.

Gear, food, locations, that’s all handled.

The real experience is what happens in between.

FINAL WORD

I always say this:

You don’t really know what a fishing trip is like here until you’ve been on the boat.

You can read about it, hear stories, look at photos…

But being out there when a barra hits, the rod loads up, and everyone on the boat reacts at the same time, that’s different.

And that’s what we try to create every trip with JUST DOON IT.
